Defensive reasoning vs differential learning – overcoming psychological barriers to organizational productivity

Action learning techniques such as differential learning offer tools for organisations to understand the often dysfunctional psychology that is governing their current state of operation and make the transition towards a more functional state.  Tailored to anyone involved in organizational management, development, process or productivity improvement, this workshop will examine how businesses can move from a workplace dominated by defensive reasoning to a differential learning approach – promoting a culture of honesty, harmony and growth.

Key topics covered in the day include:

  • Moving from single loop to triple loop learning, characterized by:
    • Single loop: Am I on target/off target?
    • Double loop: Am I choosing the right targets?
    • Triple loop: What is my attention focused on, how are psychological factors influencing my choice of targets and evaluation
  • Overcoming behavioural impediments to organizational learning:
  • Control, shutting down to change, siloism
  • Encouraging a culture of learning and growth
