Mike Brett

Mike has had a rewarding career both in the Australian Public Service and the private sector. He joined the Department of Social Security in the service network in 1983. In 1985, he discovered the wonderful world of IT when he moved into the Department's Perth Computer Centre. In 1989 he relocated to Canberra to further his career in ICT. In 1998 he moved to the private sector in Adelaide with his then young family. He undertook a number of different roles ranging from technical delivery through to management of application development centres.  He re-joined Centrelink in 2008 as the National Manager of the first Centrelink ICT branch to be located outside of Canberra. In October 2012, he commenced in his current position and was promoted in June 2013.

Mike has a Bachelor of Computing from Monash University and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Adelaide.

In 2012 Mike moved to Canberra with his partner of 24 years and their (then) 14 year old son. His eldest son remains in Adelaide to continue his university studies. Mike's interests are photography, Australian Rules football, cricket and he has recently discovered the joy of bike riding.

Julian Dabbs

Julian has spent over 10 years building systems that leverage new and existing technologies. He spent his former years in the finance sector building advanced cash forecasting systems for the major Australian banks before moving into the Food & Beverage industry.

Julian joined MICROS as the Product & Development Manager for eCommerce where he accumulated an extensive knowledge of the hospitality industry, in particular POS systems and the technologies which support them. He led a team of developers and consultants through several major eCommerce projects for clients such as Pizza Hut, KFC, Oporto, Red Rooster and The Coffee Club. Julian has since joined Guzman y Gomez as Chief Technology Officer to further drive innovation for their brand.


Rhys Evans
Delivery Manager, NAB Labs

Rhys Evans currently holds the position of Delivery Manager assigned to NBA Labs, his focus is on getting LABS Experiments to production with speed using new delivery techniques with an emphasis on getting more done with less. Rhys previously held the position of CTO at Thomas Duryea Consulting and was responsible for the development of all of TD’s Services across Cloud, Managed Services, Project Management and Delivery.

His focus is on driving customer adoption and implementation of solutions to enable agility and speed to market on new business initiatives. By working closely with the business and strategic vendors Rhys helps business realise outcomes sooner with an MVP approach followed by quick iterations . Prior to his role as CTO, Evans ran the Enterprise Information Systems division within TD, and this practice saw nearly 100% revenue growth year on year. Evans’ success is due to a strong commitment to ensuring that organisation’s business goals are translated into IT architecture to enable business, and are delivered with a focus on a simple and effective user experience.


Greg Gale
National Security Officer

Greg is responsible for security leadership, supporting government and enterprise customers on compliance and risk assessment, and leading Microsoft’s initiatives in information security assurance, trusted cloud and secure mobility. Greg is also leading Microsoft’s contribution to the implementation and realisation of the Australian Cyber Security Strategy which was released in April 2016. Greg’s role entails collaboration with research, engineering, sales, marketing, legal and operational units within Microsoft as well as engagement with customers, partners and digital leaders within the Australian Government and community.

An incurable tech-geek who was using Windows 10 at home from the early days of the Windows Insider program, Greg has both a depth in technical security expertise and the capability to engage with senior security, IT and business executives. Over the past fifteen years Greg has specialised in Information Security within government and it's something he is deeply passionate about.
Greg joined Microsoft in February 2016 after an extensive career in the Australian Public Service. His previous roles include being the Information Technology Security Adviser for the Department of Defence, a number of Director level cyber security roles within Defence, and Executive Manager ICT Infrastructure for Western Australia Police. Greg has held a number of other roles in Defence and private industry including roles in the design, delivery and management of infrastructure and networks; security and risk management; training development and delivery; and as an officer in the Royal Australian Navy.
Greg is a graduate of the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) and the University of New South Wales with a Bachelor of Science (Mathematics and Politics) and Masters of Capability Management.
Greg is married with two children and his passions, other than his family; include technology, off-road motorcycle riding, golf, squash and water skiing.


Cam Gough

Cameron Gough joined Australia Post in mid-2012 as the General Manager of the newly formed Digital Delivery Centre (DDC). Cameron is passionate about unlocking the enormous potential that sits in most organisations through moving to Lean/Agile delivery models.

The DDC was established as the proving ground for this drive within Australia Post, with the transformation effort now extending more broadly throughout the organisation. Prior to Australia Post, Cameron worked in strategy, delivery and consulting roles at PricewaterhouseCoopers and Accenture, before moving to Head of Technology roles at ANZ’s Retail Bank and Commercial Bank.


Chris Gough

Chris has 20 years of experience as a software developer, entrepreneur and Commonwealth public servant. In the last few years, his role went from Director of  Platform Services at the Environment Department (responsible for operations of over 400 heterogeneous IT systems) to “Developer at Large” at the Digital Transformation Office, then back to the Environment where he ran the first Commonwealth Digital Transformation project to deliver 15 months ahead of schedule and 90% under budget.


Andrew Hatch

Andrew is currently the DevOps Manager at Seek, overseeing a team of 12 people whose functions range from being embedded in Product Delivery Streams with the goal of driving better DevOps practices in development and testing, perform Level 1 support duties, manage our rapidly growing usage of AWS and assist in the delivery of projects aimed at improving Seeks platforms and services

Prior to Seek Andrew worked as a consultant for a number of years delivering small through to large scale IT solutions in a number of roles spanning across Architecture, Development, Testing, IM and DevOps. Andrew has worked both in Australia and India and built his first continuous delivery pipeline in 2009. Since then Andrew gravitated more and more into DevOps focused roles, due in part to getting bored with Architecture and Development roles and being more interested in the unique challenges DevOps presented with changing traditional work and organisation practices to deliver better IT solutions. Andrew has a real passion for working in dynamic, innovative and challenging environments and building high-performing teams of talented and unique people and still enjoys getting his hands dirty with code.


Craig Horne

Craig is the Chairman of the Australian Computer Society (Victoria) and an Account Executive with Dialog Group, an Australian owned and operated large IT consultancy which specialises in custom software development, managed services for existing software and resource augmentation. He is a seasoned professional with over 25 years in the IT industry, 15 years of which were spent in technical roles spanning hardware, software, operating systems, databases, networks and peripherals.

Craig is currently studying a PhD part-time at UniMelb researching information security strategy in organisations. He holds a Bachelor of Science majoring in Computer Science from La Trobe University as well as a Master of Business Administration majoring in MIS and Entrepreneurship. He is proficient with vendor technologies such as Microsoft, CA Technologies, Cisco and various flavours of UNIX and keeps up to date by undertaking a minimum of 30 hours continuing education annually, as reflected in his Certified Professional status with the Australian Computer Society.

Kevin Noonan

Kevin Noonan is the Lead Analyst for Ovum’s worldwide government practice, where he spends much of his time working with governments in many locations around the world. His specialist areas of research are IT strategy, digital government and executive leadership.

Kevin is a regular guest opinion page writer for three government magazines and these are syndicated throughout the APAC region. He is in high demand as a keynote speaker and facilitator with more than fifty events in the past year.

Before moving to the private sector, Kevin worked in a number of government departments where he held senior executive roles in industry, health, taxation and social services.

Helen Robson

Helen Robson is the branch head for Technology Infrastructure at the Australian Bureau of Statistics.  Helen has 30 years of experience in ICT with a focus on delivering business benefit and driving change through the use of  new tools and technologies.  She lead IT delivery for the 2006 Census of Population and Housing delivering over 150 systems including the first Australia wide on-line form capability. 

Helen has lead the adoption of new development methodologies, languages, platforms, business systems and now infrastructure practices. Current projects in the branch include full automation of the stack from network through to application deployment, micro-segmentation of the environment, virtual desktops for ABS staff to work from anywhere and a move of the ABS data centre.

Katherine Squire

Katherine was Executive General Manager at IRESS responsible for turning around the Financial Markets Products Division where she focused on building a strong, high performing team that could scale globally. She has extensive experience in product management, change management and information technology within the finance industry.

Katherine has also consulted to a range of financial institutions to deliver technical, business and compliance solutions. She is currently leading the DevOps charge at the ASX.

The ASX DevOps team have implemented a full Docker Platform to create containers (as a service). The team have containerised the Atlassian Tool Stack (“eating our own dog food”) and will be expanding to other ASX applications in the near future. Containers will significantly change the deployment and environment provisioning process.
