Session A
Executive coaching session: Communicating the value of data management to non-technical stakeholders and assuring success in information management (IM) projects

This in-depth learning session is designed for all technologists involved in information management projects. The session will address the key point of failure in information management projects and how to avoid it. By addressing the inability to communicate the benefits of the project to non-technical management stakeholders, it discusses the communication gap and identifies areas in which this gap is most critical.

The session will showcase best practices for communicating technical data to non-technical management, in three specific sections:

Section 1: Avoiding key points of failure

  • Why do IM projects fail? lessons from project management
  • KPI’s for quantitative IM benefits
  • Constructing a business case and unique business value

Section 2: Closing critical communications gaps

Section 3: Adopting and adapting best practices for upper management support

  • Case studies – change management and change trajectory
  • Aligning with organizational growth strategy

  • PLAN-ITSM for success in IM projects

From chaos to calm: Bringing order to PETREL environments

This in-depth learning session is designed for Development and Exploration Geologists, Geophysicists, Geochemists, Geoscientists, Petroleum Engineers, Managers, and Technical IT personnel that are Petrel users.

This interactive session will examine what it takes to extract the business value from this highly technical software and how to get more quickly to the value, in three specific sections:

Section 1: Developing an effective software portfolio

  • Aligning Petrel with the business
  • Support, data framework and infrastructure
  • Identifying the value of the software to the business

Section 2: Examples from the field – companies large and small

  • How to overcome user resistance
  • What to do with all the data?
  • Evaluating the pros and cons of big-bang versus creeping implementation

  • Addressing the challenges to implementing large-scale change
  • Developing the skills and competencies of petrel users
