After authoring a five year supply chain strategy and operating plan through board approval, he and his relatively newly installed team, with over 150 years combined expertise,  has set upon a journey to transform supply chain at Clough from the point of demand creation through the end of product/project lifecycles. Prior to Clough, Bill relocated from the USA to join Woodside Energy as General Manager of Materials Management and Supply Chain focused on creating a reliable operationally excellent end to end supply chains, supporting the Northwest Shelf operations, offshore assets and helping the foundation of the new Pluto LNG plant.
As a former financial executive, Bill understand the levers to pull and push in creating shareholder value through supply chain excellence in leveraging spend, managing cash flows via inventory controls, providing superior service and developing future supply chain leaders.
In his spare time Bill enjoys playing his collection of guitars and sharing good food and fine wines with friends at his home by the pool and BBQ.

Santos

Michael Batiste is the Supply Chain Manager for the Santos Gladstone Liquefied Natural Gas Project.  In this role he is responsible for the logistics, material management, contracting and procurement functions to support the Project.  Michael has held a variety of logistics and contracting roles within Santos prior to mobbing to the GLNG Project.

Prior to joining Santos, Michael served in the Australian Army and held a range of senior logistics operations and logistics training appointments. In 2007 he managed the Australian Defence Force base logistics operations in South East Australia, including Project management of the Armoured Personnel Carrier upgrade program. In 2008 – 2009 Michael commanded the Army Logistics Training Centre, responsible for training 7000 students a year in vocational, graduate and post-graduate education in the fields of logistics, maintenance, project management and emergency medicine.

Michael was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2010 for services in the field of logistics.

Michael holds a Bachelors degree in Science and Masters degrees in Business Administration and Strategic Studies.

Anthony Clark is an experienced and results oriented leader with an extensive background in supply chain management, logistics, strategic sourcing and procurement gained in the mining services, fast moving consumer goods and defence industries. He has a demonstrated ability to identify and isolate key elements of any task or situation in order to determine priorities and ensure effective, practical and achievable results that deliver on key strategic and financial metrics.

Anthony has a clear and effective understanding of all aspects of supply chain systems, distribution and warehouse methodologies, port and terminal management, and project management, stemming from extensive experience and senior roles with the Australian Regular Army, Coca-Cola Amatil, Orica Mining Services, GE Aviation and Thiess Pty Ltd.

During his short time with Thiess, he has reviewed demand and supply planning for construction projects, developed the concept for a centralized purchasing hub for all business units, introduced a freight forwarding desk to undertake project logistics and led the Leighton Holdings project team responsible for establishing supplier panels for linehaul, heavy haul, freight forwarding and customs services.

Anthony is a graduate of the Royal Military College Duntroon as well as having attained a Masters of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Management. He is a keen corporate golfer who doesn’t play nearly enough.

Jim is the founder and managing director of Caliba Group, which assists companies to improve their procurement function capabilities, and to manage cost reduction projects.

Diane Jamieson is currently the Contracts Manager and Contract Management Process Authority in Development Division at Woodside Energy Limited, responsible for production support and continuous improvement in Contract Management. She is also a Fellow and lecturer with the Graduate School of Business at Curtin University. Prior to joining the resources sector she was a contracting professional in the defence, government and tertiary education sectors for nearly 20 year and has a broad range of experience. Diane has also worked in the forestry and health sectors and in the UK, Sweden and Canada.

Ian has had 30 years’ experience in the steel, coal and power industries with several companies including  BHP, Coal & Allied, Ausgrid, Florida Power & Light, Powerlink Qld, Transfield Services, Thiess and now Downer.  He has worked with asset owners having a perspective on procuring major project services and on the contractor’s side positioning and bidding for many large projects and maintenance contracts. Ian has particular experience in Asset Management in the power industry with 20 of those years in management positions within power generation, transmission and distribution utility businesses. He has led consulting teams implementing asset management systems and leading cultural change for clients for Australian and overseas assignments.

In his current position, he has the responsibility for developing business capabilities and opportunities for Downer EDI in multiple sectors, including oil & gas for shutdown and maintenance management services.

Prior to joining QUT as an Associate Professor in 2011, Rob worked in a wide variety of roles and locations for Shell International’s Exploration & Production division.  He started his career in Shell’s Strategy & Economics team in 1997, and then worked for several years as a production engineer in the company’s overseas operations (offshore and onshore). He then left Shell for three years to work as an Industrial Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge, but re-joined Shell again in 2004 to become the company’s Executive Coordinator of R&D. He graduated summa cum laude with a B.Eng. in mechanical engineering from McMaster University in Canada, where he was the class valedictorian.  He also earned a S.M. degree in Technology & Policy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a PhD in engineering from the University of Cambridge, where he was a Gates Cambridge Scholar.  He is a Fellow of both the UK’s Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and Engineers Australia, and is chartered as a Eur. Ing. in Europe.  Also, he is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, and continues to stay connected to the University of Cambridge as an Affiliated Researcher.  Born and raised in Canada, Rob currently lives in the Brisbane area with his wife, Shannon, and their three sons.

Debbie Phillips currently leads the contracting and procurement activities at the BP Bulwer Island Refinery and enjoys working strategically with suppliers and the Bulwer team to identify innovative opportunities to improve site performance whilst delivering safe and reliable operations. 

Debbie is a CPA, holds a Masters in Professional Accounting and an undergraduate degree in Human Resource Management.  Debbie is an advocate of the Chief Executive Women’s program that aims to facilitate greater representation of women at senior levels of Australian business, government and the not-for-profit sectors.

In her spare time, Debbie is preparing for the launch of her own business focused on creating opportunities for professionals to balance paid and unpaid work commitments.  Debbie enjoys swimming and boxing class (although not particularly adept at either activity), and spending time with her family.

Chris had a long career as an engineer, project manager and development manager in the IT and telecommunications industry, specialising in the development and deployment of products and services for underserviced and emerging markets around the world.

In 2002, Chris joined CCIWA as an engineering consultant in the Industry Capability Network (ICN) and worked on many infrastructure and resource projects in WA like the Perth Convention Centre, Perth-to-Mandurah Railway, Northbridge Tunnel, Sino Iron Project and the Gorgon Project.

In 2010, Chris took over the management of ProjectConnect and REPS, where his wealth of experience in the management and development of online information management systems combined with year of experience on resource projects helped to advance the service offerings of these products to new levels.

Chris has a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Stellenbosch University in South Africa and also has a Bachelor of Commerce and Accounting degree from the University of South Africa.


Andrew Prochon

Andrew Prochon is a management consultant with 25 years’ experience working in the Australian and international resources sector for companies such as Rio Tinto, BHP Billiton, Xstrata, Vale and Santos.

With a passion for analysis and problem solving, and an ability to thrive in challenging environments, Andrew applied his craft early in his career in the areas of logistics and procurement to successfully deliver diverse projects such as developing port infrastructure investment options for iron-ore distribution into China, negotiating major consumable and services supply contracts for a greenfield mining project in Argentina, and analysing options for barging potash up the Paraguay and Parana rivers into Brazil.

Andrew later changed his focus from physical to business processes, leading major business improvement and change management initiatives. In his most recent role, Andrew was program manager for the introduction of a best-practice solution to improve contractor management processes and deliver savings across Rio Tinto’s $3Bn of global contractor spend.

Andrew has a bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree and an MBA, both from the University of Queensland. He lives in Brisbane with his wife, teenage daughter and German Shepherd “Tango”.

Dennis Ryan is a 35 year veteran of the oil, gas and LNG business.  Dennis, a Texas-educated oil and gas lawyer, had an 18 year career with Phillips Petroleum where he advanced to the role of head of Laws and Regulations for its E&P and Gas & Gas Liquids groups. Dennis, then, became the head of Phillips’ Global Gas business where he developed opportunities in LNG to use the company’s Optimized Cascade LNG technology for major LNG projects, including the Trinidad & Tobago Atlantic LNG Project.

Dennis was instrumental in establishing the Bechtel - Phillips LNG Alliance in 1995. His career has continued in Energy where he has assumed senior global management positions in pipelines, power, oil and gas and LNG for several companies including, GE, Bechtel, Aker Kvaerner, Black & Veatch, Ausenco and now Downer.  Dennis lives and works in Brisbane.

Dennis recently hosted a gas industry sector workshop on Owner/ Contractor Issues which discussed and captured lessons learned and issues that owners and contractors have with the procurement process.

Liam Wagner is a Research Fellow at the University of Queensland specialising in energy and environmental economics and policy. Prior to coming to the School of Economics, Dr Wagner worked as a Trading Analyst in the energy industry, providing electricity market forecasting expertise, advice on risk management, while also trading an Open Cycle Gas Turbine power station. In 2008 Dr Wagner was appointed to an Australian Government panel of experts to advise on the design and implementation of the proposed emissions trading scheme. Rachel manages and executes various complex and comprehensive China/Asia sourcing projects for international clients, especially from Australia and Africa. Her focus is on mining, industrial, infrastructure, engineering and FMCG clients.

Her responsibilities also include business development and strategic client development. She has attended various international conferences, including Mining Indaba (Cape Town), Mining Indaba (Singapore), CIPS 10th Annual conference (Sydney, panelist), Africa Down Under (Perth), Future China (Singapore), Diggers and Dealers (Kalgoorlie), Smart Procurement (Johannesburg), China Mining (Tianjin) and various international seminars. In 2013 and 2014, she was also a guest lecturer at the University of Cape Town, Graduate School of Business (MBA programme), on the topic of ‘Culture in Business’.

Born and raised in Beijing, Rachel has been living and working in China, Singapore and Australia. Before joining The Beijing Axis Procurement, she was a Consultant in the Group Corporate Office in Singapore. Prior to that, she was a Strategy Consultant with Marbridge Consulting in China. In her early career, she was a consultant in the Cargo Logistics Department of Beijing Foreign Airlines Service Corporation.

She holds an MBA from University of Western Australia and a Bachelor’s degree in International Business and Trade from the Capital University of Economics & Business in China. She can speak fluent English and Mandarin. Her hobbies include travel, reading about new business ventures and keeping fit.


Leo Yanes

Leo holds Ph.D. and M.Sc. qualifications in economics from the London School of Economics and has been a Visiting Research Scholar in the Department of Economics at Harvard. Leo has extensive expertise in quantitative methods, with a strong emphasis on planning, valuation (discounted cash flows, cost-benefit analysis), quantitative risk analysis (Monte Carlo simulation), optimisation, econometrics and general equilibrium.

Leo’s experience in the oil & gas sector encompasses project appraisal using discounted cash flow and long and short-run forecasting. Leo has built cash flow models for various oil & gas projects at Santos, PDVSA (the national oil company of Venezuela) and various off-shore and on-shore projects in Western Australia and the Timor Sea. This work includes integrated supply chain valuation models for the Gladstone Coal Seam Gas to LNG project (Santos-GLNG), the Cash-Maple offshore field in the Timor Sea, and crude oil reservoirs in the Canning Basin (Western Australia). This class of models encompasses all aspects of the production process, from the reservoir (gas, condensate, crude and water flows) through to surface facilities and LNG plants and shipping. LNG facilities include both onshore as well as floating LNG.

Other projects include design of a valuation procedure for geo-political risk for mining investments (Xstrata), design and construction of a business forecasting toolkit for a multinational corporation (KPMG), construction of forecasts to 2100 for the Eastern Australia gas market. Leo has experience in economic impact studies for oil & gas projects, educational aspects of the National Reform Agenda and provided modelling support for the International Monetary Fund economic restructuring programme in Venezuela (1996).
