Operating optimally in Australia’s power market - analysing the changing energy landscape and alternate contracting options

About the workshop:

Australia’s energy landscape is rapidly evolving in response to economic conditions, government programs and rising price pressures. The options available to manage exposure to energy prices have increased. Understanding this changing landscape is crucial for Australian energy users, industry participants and government bodies.

This workshop will:

  • Analyse the changing Australian energy landscape
  • Develop an outlook for power prices
  • Explore advanced procurement strategies – who do they suit?
  • Understanding potential savings and impact on budget certainty.
  • Investigate how load flexibility can be utilized to reduce electricity costs.
  • Help participants manage risk in a changing energy environment

Your workshop leader:

Peter Sherman, Principal Consultant, Energetics

“Participants will leave with the ability to make more informed decisions around contract options, recognising the risks associated with the consequences of their decisions.”

Lunch, morning and afternoon tea provided.

Masterclass B | 09:00 – 17:00

Examining the opportunities for renewable generation & distributed gas generation in the NEM

About the workshop:

The Australian National Electricity Market is entering a period of uncertainty with respect to the effects of the smart meter rollout on future demand behaviour, economic and environmental regulation, retail electricity tariff design and retail competition and the relative costs and performance characteristics of future electricity generation and energy storage technologies. This course will review the key issues and discuss their implications for future opportunities for renewable generation and distributed gas generation in the National Electricity Market.

Your workshop leader:

Hugh Outhred, Senior Visiting Fellow, University of New South Wales

“This course will provide insights into how the design and regulation of the National Electricity Market is evolving and what implications that will have for renewable generation & distributed gas generation, options that allow companies, communities and families to respond to the growing threats of climate change and fossil fuel energy flow constraints.”

Lunch, morning and afternoon tea provided.
