Karen Lay-Brew

Karen is a Board Member and Corporate Advisor, and presently holds the position President on the Australian Business Software Industry Association (ABSIA) Board.  She works closely with both Australian Government and the private sector. 

Karen previously worked at Microsoft HQ in the USA as VP for delivering global software launches coordinating Marketing, Sales, Partners and Customer Service, and established Women in IT.  She also served as the VP of Six Sigma and CIO for BHP Billiton Base Metals division where she implemented a world-wide Six Sigma Operational Excellence programme.  As the CIO for Honeywell Asia-Pacific, she has worked across different cultures and geographies to successfully integrate the disparate IT organisations serving 14 different countries.  Karen has also consulted to various Government departments and SMEs.

Helen Robson

Helen Robson is the branch head for Technology Infrastructure at the Australian Bureau of Statistics.  This covers delivery of a wide range of services that underpin the work of the ABS - including the IT network, data centre and services, data base services, protective and IT security, end use computing, service desk, change and incident management, collaboration tools, communications network and the library. 

Helen has 30 years of experience in ICT with a focus on delivering business benefit and driving change through the use of  new tools and technologies.  Helen has lead the adoption of new development methodologies, languages, platforms, business systems and now infrastructure practices. Current projects in the branch include a complete revamp of the network infrastructure including automation of the ICT environment, delivery of virtual desktops and laptops for mobility for all ABS staff to work from anywhere, and a physical move of the ABS data centre.


Dr Philippa Ryan

Dr Philippa Ryan is a barrister and lecturer in the Faculty of Law at the University of Technology Sydney. Pip coordinates and teaches Civil Practice, Commercial Equity, and Disruptive Technologies and the Law. Her PhD formulated a new classification for the liability of third parties to a breach of trust. Her current research explores legal issues arising in cryptocurrency exchanges and blockchain applications. She is a member of the Standards Australia Blockchain Technical Committee and she is on the  Industry Advisory board of the Australian Digital Commerce Association (ADCA).

At UTS, Pip coordinates the Allens UTS Law Tech Challenge for Social Justice - a programme the teams up students with professionals from Allens, designing and developing apps for NGO clients. She also teaches on the NSW Bar Practice Course.


Dr Lesley Seebeck

Dr Lesley Seebeck is the Deputy Director (Information Systems and Services) and CIO at the Bureau of Meteorology.  In March 2017, she was recognised as Federal CIO of the Year.

Lesley has extensive experience in strategy, policy, management, budget, information technology and research roles in the Australian Public Service, industry and academia.  She has worked in the Departments of Finance, Defence, and the Prime Minister and Cabinet, the Office of National Assessments, and as an IT and management consultant in private industry, and at two universities. 

Her PhD in information technology considered the temporal behaviour of complex adaptive systems. She has an MBA, a Masters in Defence Studies and a Bachelor's degree in Applied Science (Physics).
