The outlook for oil & gas in 2016 - how will it impact managers?

Promising future outlook for Australia’s oil and gas sector puts increasing pressure on HSE and Process Safety managers

The future outlook for the oil and gas sector is promising even though Australia’s biggest gas projects are now moving from construction to production phase – and the increase in supply is pushing prices down.

In a recent article from  ABC Rural, international gas analyst Tony Regan said: “I think this probably may only be a two to three year problem, whereas these projects are 30, 40, 50 year projects. So the developers will have taken the long term view; prices go up, prices go down, and they're particularly weak at the moment.”

He believes that “although there's a lot of new supply coming on over the next couple of years from Australia and the US, if one looks at what we'll need for post 2020, there's not enough supply coming on."

But whether oil and gas organisations take the short or the long term view, their HSE and Process Safety strategies must be rigorously accurate at both the construction and production phases if they want to ensure an incident-free environment and reduce vulnerability and exposure to risks.

At the 2nd annual Safety in Oil and Gas 2016 conference, being held in Brisbane from 1-3 March 2016, senior VPs, directors and senior managers in HSE, risk, process safety, operational excellence and technology and others from the oil and gas sector will share their experiences on how to apply new methodologies to identify and implement effective change management strategies, embrace new technologies and inspire effective safety leadership.

With over 25 speakers, 18  presentations, two panel discussions and two full-day in-depth learning sessions for senior executives, this 3-day event will bring together the best in the industry to develop offshore and onshore process safety strategies for  controlling major accident risk and achieving on-going organisational reliability.

Key topics within the event’s agenda include:

  • Discover new industry approaches and apply them to Health Safety and Environment risks and process safety management strategies
  • Benchmark your methodologies to identify worthy change management strategies
  • Inspire leadership to engage, motivate and develop your safety team
  • Empower workers and contractors to contribute to HSE excellence through improved communication
  • Apply new safety and human factor practices to cope with challenges of a new era
  • Technology advancement – reducing vulnerability and exposure to risks or increasing human factor issues?
  • Taking advantage of data analysis to achieve excellence in safety management
  • Enhancing abilities to detect and avoid hazard incidents through process safety methodologies

All delivered by safety leaders from Shell, Woodside, Arrow, Santos, Drillsearch, Fluor Australia, Viva Energy, Laing O’Rourke, Clough, Worley Parsons and more.
