The Manager of Operations and Training NSW Taxi Council is Nick Abrahim who commenced his appointment in November 2015.

Nick’s first introduction to the NSW taxi industry was in 2008 when he obtained his Taxi authority to drive.
Since that time he has operated his own Wheelchair Accessible Taxi business for over 5 years.
Prior to joining the NSW Taxi Industry, his roles have included Regional Sales Manager with Kellogg’s Australia, National Account Manager with GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals, District Sales Manager, Coca-Cola Amatil, and Manager with McDonald’s Australia.

Along with his knowledge of the taxi industry, he comes to the Taxi Council with expertise in training and development, and a strong record of customer engagement and negotiation.


Stuart Ballingall

Stuart Ballingall is the Program Director - Connected & Automated Vehicles at Austroads, which is the association of Australian and New Zealand road transport authorities.  Stuart also holds the role of Director - Transport Futures at VicRoads, and is on the board of directors for the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).  Stuart has significant experience leading technical programs that span across the transport, automotive, and ICT industries. Previous senior roles held by Stuart include with General Motors Holden, the Royal Automobile Club of Victoria (RACV), and VicRoads. Stuart is also an active member on numerous government and industry forums, both at the national and international level.  Qualifications held by Stuart include a Bachelor of Engineering with honours and a Master of Business Administration.

Andy’s a specialist in the technology sector and his focus is in helping businesses lead through changing market dynamics, find new ways to differentiate themselves and transform their business to unlock the pathways to dramatic growth. As Founder and CEO of Everyone – he runs a consulting business focused on helping leadership teams develop purpose and visions for their people and organizations; design innovative and progressive customer experiences and drive differentiation into their marketing. Andy is also a partner in 4 further tech start-ups; Float Science, Starter Alliance, SimXchange and Greatest Athlete Technologies, based in the US, Sydney and London. In his spare time feeds his life-long cycling obsession by racing, running a masters racing team and various fundraising initiatives related to the sport.


Dr Nathaniel Bavinton

Dr Nathaniel Bavinton is an urban sociologist, strategic planner and social researcher. He has spent over a decade conducting research and planning focused on interconnections between urban planning and design, governance, community, consumption and culture.
Nathaniel is the Smart City Coordinator at the City of Newcastle. He is leading the development of strategies and projects to take advantage of opportunities related to digital economy, connectivity and integrated analytics in the built environment. He works closely with the local innovation ecosystem and manages collaborative city strategy and citizen engagement activities.
The Newcastle Smart City Initiative is helping to develop Newcastle as a smart, liveable and sustainable city. Nathaniel is really interested in how the city can be a more innovative and creative, safe, connected, and socially diverse place.

One of the world's leading scholars and practitioners of urban policy, Professor Edward Blakely has been Dean of the School of Urban Planning and Development at the University of Southern California and Dean of the Robert J. Milano Graduate School of Management and Urban Policy, New School University in New York City. He is the Founder and Chair of the Future Cities Collaborative. In addition to Professor Blakely's background in academia, the Professor has an extensive record of public service that includes advising the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the city of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, state and federal governments in Australia and the United States, as well as governments in Korea, Japan, Sweden, Indonesia, New Zealand and Vietnam. The Future Cities Collaborative allows Professor Blakely to combine his passion for sustainable urban design with his expertise in teaching and fostering capacity building in all levels of government.


Emil Bolongaita
Distinguished Service Professor of Public Policy & Management
Carnegie Mellon University

Professor Emil Bolongaita is Distinguished Service Professor of Public Policy & Management of Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), Pittsburgh, USA, and Chief Executive of the university’s Australia campus. He works with Prof Raj Rajkumar, Director of the General Motors-CMU Laboratories, and other colleagues to advance the university’s R&D programs on connected and autonomous vehicles. Professor Bolongaita has taught at the Elliott School of International Studies at George Washington University, the National University of Singapore, and at the Asian Institute of Management. He received his PhD from the University of Notre Dame, USA.


Josh Brydges

Josh has long had a fascination with innovative transportation. Originally from Canada, Josh has an undergraduate degree from the University of Calgary in Geography focusing on Urban Geography, as well as a Masters of Planning from UTS where his major research project involved a comparative analysis of the Carsharing policies of 11 of Sydney’s local governments, contrasted with international best practice.

Josh is now the Lead Locations and Transportation Planner. He develops GoGet’s network of on-street and off-street carshare locations, as well as further integrating carshare into Transport Planning and Infrastructure frameworks/ decision making across Australia.


Marcus Burke

Marcus Burke is the Project Director for Compliance and Technology at the National Transport Commission. He is responsible for transport technology projects, including developing the legal framework for automated vehicles. Over the last 12 months he has lead a team at the NTC examining the regulatory barriers to automated vehicles and developing a roadmap for future reform. Marcus also has responsibility for key heavy vehicle national law reforms, including the current reform of chain of responsibility. Marcus joined the NTC in 2011.

Previously Marcus previously worked in the private sector, with extensive experience in IT. Marcus has a combined Bachelor of Law and Science from the University of Melbourne and a Masters in Diplomacy and International Trade from Monash University.


Henri Coron

Henri Coron is responsible for Navya’s vehicle sales worldwide. Henri launched his career at Infogrames/Atari with different executive positions, ranging from Regional Manager to Commercial Director for the United Kingdom. His career as a digital and automotive entrepreneur is highlighted by his role as Managing and Sales Director for Electronic Arts (maker of FIFA videogames), a subsidiary he is responsible for setting up in France.

Prior to EA, Henri developed an online advertising platform that he later sold to the Lagardère Group. His early years as an entrepreneur were spent establishing Infonie, an early entrant to Francis ISPs space, later to be sold to BelgaCom. A father of three children, Henri graduated from the ESAE International school of Business with a master in Business and Distribution in 1986.


Steve Cratchley

He is a specialist on advanced automotive technologies and has been investigating these for many years. He is particularly well connected worldwide in this space with those working with these technologies.

Steve has worked in many fields at Suncorp across Strategy, Innovation and Underwriting roles and is uniquely qualified to talk about emerging vehicle technology.

Ian is the CEO of Excellerate Australia Ltd, which is the not for profit company that runs the Automotive Co-operative Research Centre and a range of other programs that support the manufacturing sector with technology development and business excellence.

Ian comes from a manufacturing background and has worked in polymer and paper production, silicone products, plastics processing and pigment manufacturing.  He also has experience in human and plant biotechnology, and in the management of intellectual property

Ian has a science degree and an MBA, and in addition to working in manufacturing, has also had several roles developing and commercialising new technologies. He is the inventor on two patents.

Ian has been managing the operations of CRC’s for over ten years and has been CEO of Excellerate Australia since 2013. He is leading a bid for a new CRC focussed on making better use of data to improve our transport and mobility systems.

Andrew Constance was elected to the NSW Parliament as the Member for Bega in 2003. Following the election of the O’Farrell Government in 2011, he was sworn in as the Minister for Ageing and Disability Services, where he championed the person-centred reforms which were necessary steps towards the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

In 2013 he became the Minister for Finance & Services with responsibility for many areas across government such as Workcover, Compulsory Third Party, Sydney Water, Government Property, Office of State Revenue, Lands and Property and IT. His reform agenda included the decade of decentralisation, better utilisation of government property and assets, implementing the government’s IT strategy and involving the private sector in service provision to improve efficiencies and savings to the NSW taxpayer.

In April 2014, Andrew was sworn in as Treasurer and added Industrial Relations to his responsibilities the following month. He handed down the 2014-15 State Budget which delivered increased funding for infrastructure and child protection, and oversaw the scoping study for the ‘poles and wires’ transaction. Following the election of the Baird Government in 2015, he was sworn in as Minister for Transport and Infrastructure. The Minister oversees some of the biggest infrastructure projects in the country, including the CBD Light Rail and Sydney Metro, which will see the construction of a second harbour rail crossing, delivering more trains and faster services for the entire city.

Andrew is also responsible for the delivery of ICC Sydney – a new convention and exhibition centre that forms part of the revitalisation of Darling Harbour.

Niels de Boer is the Program Director for the Centre of Excellence for Testing & Research of Autonomous Vehicles at Nanyang Technological University which provides support to the Singapore Land Transport Authority on the development of technical standards for AVs in Singapore. Before that, he worked in Lloyd’s Register where he was responsible for the quality of technology development in the energy business which included certification development. He also worked in Delphi and Siemens-VDO/Continental on product development, advanced development and research powertrain and infotainment systems and was involved in the development of global corporate processes for the software development to ensure the quality of automotive software.


Hany Eldaly

Hany Eldaly is a Managing Director of Mobility as a Service Australia.  He has for almost two decades assisted Australia’s conversion to smart mobility and intelligent transportation.  Hany's interest in MaaS is driven by our community needs to  improving customers' experience and offering seamless, enjoyable journey to their destinations whilst optimising the performance of the transport services.

He has a strong track record in successfully applying information and communications technologies to improving the performance and operations of the nation’s roads network. Hany also has broad experience in the application of information and communications technologies to the military and health sectors.
Hany has held national leadership roles in the private sector and is known for being passionate about Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and smart mobility. Dedicated to the role of technology to improve the performance of the transport network and customers' experience, Hany has contributed to the development and delivery of managed motorway solutions, improving the driving experiences of road users on Australia’s major roads.
Hany holds a double Bachelors degree in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering.


Prof. Glenn Geers

Glenn Geers has a BSc (Hons), BE(electrical, Hons) and a PhD in theoretical physics from the University of Sydney. He has more than 20 years’ experience in ICT and ITS, especially in sensing and distributed systems. He has held research and leadership roles in both the private and government sectors in Australia.

Glenn has conducted and led research in topics ranging from signal control, to network modelling and connected vehicles. He is on a number of transport and academic advisory boards both locally and internationally.
He is a member of the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics and the Association for Computing Machinery.  He is on the editorial board of GeoInformatica.

Alex Harrington

Alex is the Chief Operating Officer of The Warren Centre, a science, technology and innovation think tank at the University of Sydney. Alex is responsible for delivering The Warren Centre’s programs in line with the strategic plan and ensuring the success of innovative projects including the Technology 2030 Roadmap, Humanitarian Babel Fish, Professional Performance Innovation and Risk (PPIR) and Infrastructure Productivity. Alex joined the Warren Centre after working on the Low Energy High Rise Project. This project identified significant energy savings in the commercial office sector through a number of low cost strategies.

Prior to joining The Warren Centre, Alex was responsible for delivering the sustainability platform for the DEXUS Property Group including a $41 million energy improvement upgrade plan to deliver a 4.5 star NABERS Energy average for the office portfolio. Previously, Alex held the role of Manager, Risk & Sustainability at Colonial First State Global Asset Management.

Alex holds a Master of Environmental Law, Business and Management, a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment and is currently participating in the Innovation and Entrepreneurship program at the University of Sydney.

Professor Narelle Haworth is the Director of CARRS-Q, the Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety-Queensland.  She has almost 30 years of experience in road safety research.  Narelle was awarded the 2013 Australasian College of Road Safety Fellowship “for her outstanding contribution as an internationally recognised researcher in the road safety field and for her major contribution as a policy advisor at the state, national and international level”.  Her special interest is in improving the safety of the most vulnerable road users – pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcyclists – and other groups such as roadworkers.


Behyad Jafari

With a background in government and corporate affairs, Behyad is a respected adviser and leader in the transition to a low carbon economy.


Steve Kanowski

Steve commenced his career in 1983 with Queensland Rail.  He relocated to London in 1987 and worked for Travers Morgan and Transmark (the international consultancy business of British Rail).  Steve returned to Australia in 1993 to set up the Brisbane office of Travers Morgan.  With the sale of TM, he moved to Sinclair Knight Merz to establish the SKM Economics subsidiary, followed by roles with PwC, Booz Allen Hamilton, AECOM and GHD.  He has worked on numerous international assignments, in Argentina, Angola, Ireland, Malaysia, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Thailand and Vietnam. 

In December 2013, Steve joined the Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning as Chief Economist and Executive Director, Infrastructure Policy and Planning, where among other things he was responsible for the State Infrastructure Plan. 
Steve is currently the Chief Economist and General Manager (Strategic Policy) for the Department of Transport and Main Roads.

Andrew Lee

Andrew is responsible for policy, strategy, and compliance in the Driver and Vehicle Services division of the Department of Transport, Western Australia. His work recently has focussed on applying technology to improve safety, integrity and customer service in transport services including the RAC WA Intellibus trial, and the introduction of data analytics to target compliance programs based on risk. Andrew’s experience includes senior roles managing regulatory reforms with the Department of Commerce, particularly COAG projects; and with the Departments of Child Protection and Communities. He has also served as senior adviser to a State Minister and Commonwealth Shadow Minister.   

Andrew has a PhD in History from the Australian National University.

On 27 January 2016, Rohan Lund was appointed to the role of Group Chief Executive Officer of the National Roads & Motorists' Association (NRMA).

With a strong background in digital technology, strategy and innovation, Rohan brings a wealth of experience delivering transformation, across a range of customer-focused companies.

Most recently the Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Foxtel, Australia's largest subscription business, Rohan's previous roles also include COO of Seven West Media, CEO of Yahoo!7 and Strategy Director for SingTel Optus.

An energetic and customer focused leader, Rohan provides strategic and commercial expertise to the NRMA, which is Australia's largest member-owned organisation providing a range of motoring and travel services.

Rohan will lead NRMA on the next stage of its evolution, as it looks to maximise business opportunities in the shared economy and through massive technological change in the mobility sector.

NRMA membership has been in Rohan's family his whole driving life. Married with six children, he is passionate about family and community issues. He also holds a Master of Laws.

He has a keen interest in understanding how established industries and markets are being disrupted by the digital revolution and how this is transforming the way organisations do business with their customers. Steve is a thought leader and commentator on how the Australian automotive industry is evolving.

Clr Katherine O’Regan has over thirty years’ experience in developing and implementing growth strategies for business and government. Having served as a Chief of Staff and Advisor to Federal and State Government Ministers and Deputy Mayor, Woollahra Municipal Council where she continues as a Councillor, Katherine has unique insights into the policy, process and priorities of government.

This is complimented by a corporate executive career centred on the banking, financial and property sectors where she gained experience in public private partnerships, corporate transactions and mergers and acquisitions.

In 2013 Katherine established her own a consultancy firm providing strategic advice to government and business specialising in developing innovative solutions to the challenges and priorities facing cities and communities. Katherine has led forums and workshops, written policy submissions and articles, and advocated for change for clients including NSW Small Business Commissioner’s small business friendly Councils and regional activation programs, the NSW Department of Industry’s Future Towns Program, energy start up Star Scientific and the Australian Banking Association.

Katherine has been a member of the Advisory Board of the Future Cities Collaborative, University of Sydney since its inception and was appointed Executive Director of the Cities Leadership Institute in 2017.

Katherine holds a Bachelor of Applied Science, Masters of Business Administration and a Masters of US Studies (with Merit) and is Director of leading public policy think tank, The Sydne Institute, Trustee of Local Government Super and Chair of her local Chamber of Commerce.


Grant Pearce

An insurance veteran of over 35 years, Grant has worked in both broking and underwriting organisations and is currently at QBE Australia & New Zealand, a division of QBE Insurance, one of the world’s top 20 general insurance and reinsurance companies, employing 14,500 people in 37 countries.

With strong technical discipline, Grant has brought vision and direction to a number of senior management roles which include Underwriting, Claims and Operational management of QBE’s personal lines business.

In his current role, Grant leads the Product Management team for QBE’s personal lines products, responsible for the profitable growth of the company’s Private Motor, Homeowners, Travel, Accident & Health, Retail Credit and Compulsory Third Party portfolios.

More recently,  Grant was part of the team that introduced Telematics technology for Private Motor products with QBE’s Insurance Box – a first for Australia - and they continue to lead the market in this development. In 2016, QBE partnered with Tesla Motors to launch the Tesla Private Motor product and will continue to work strategically with them.


Michael Regan
Chief Scientist, Human Factors
ARRB – Australian Driverless Vehicle Initiative

Professor Mike Regan is Chief Scientist-Human Factors for the Australian Road Research Board (ARRB), which is Australia’s national road transport research agency. He is an Adjunct Professor with the University of New South Wales in Sydney, and the Immediate Past President of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society of Australia.

Mike is a psychologist and human factors specialist with more than 20 years’ experience as a transport safety researcher -in Australia and Europe. He has spent more than 15 years researching driver interaction with automated vehicles and is the author/co-author of around 250 published research documents, including three books.

Mike has is the technical co-leader of the Australian Driverless Vehicle Initiative, and is the Australian representative on the US-EU-Japan trilateral human factors expert group on vehicle automation.  


Majid Sarvi

Majid Sarvi is the chair in transport engineering and the professor in transport engineering for smart cities at the department of Infrastructure engineering, University of Melbourne.

He has over 22 years of professional, academic and research experience in the areas of traffic and transport engineering. His researches are multidisciplinary with international outlook and both theoretically oriented and applied in nature.

His fields of research include a range of topics, including: large-scale multimodal transport network modelling, vulnerability and optimisation, crowd dynamic modelling and simulation, as well as application of the Internet of Things and ICT in transport engineering. He has been the author/co-author of over 270 refereed publications in highly regarded journals, conferences and proceedings. Majid has served on several international research committees, the Network Modelling Committee (ADB30), Traffic Flow Theory and Characteristics Committee (AHB45), and the Emergency Evacuation Committee (ANB80) Transportation Research Board (TRB) of the U.S. National Research Council.

He is also the founder and co-chair of the Crowd Dynamic Modelling committee AHB45(2) of TRB. He serves on the editorial board of several eminent journals including Transportation research part C, Journal of Advanced transportation and Transportmetrica. He has extensive industry and consultancy experience. He has worked in consultancy projects in Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, and Middle East.


Nathaniel Simpson

Nathaniel currently looks after various special projects for Youi. He’s an actuary and also holds a Master degree in Financial Engineering, but is just as passionate about people as he is about data.

He is a dynamic leader focusing on client-centric business strategies that provide value for money and exceptional client service. By way of example, he has was part of the founding team of a direct to consumer life insurance start-up funded by a large Multinational insurance group. He has also successfully delivered IoT enabled insurance products to market. This before making the move to Youi where he’s been fortunate enough to dabble in various technology enabled projects.

In his free time Nathaniel loves to swim, bike and run, spend quality time with his wife and explore innovative ways to make the world a better place.

Gavin Smith joined Bosch Australia in 1990 following 10 years in various Information Technology roles at a number of well-known Multinationals in Australia and New Zealand. After a successful two years in Frankfurt as part of Bosch’s Original Equipment Sales team, Gavin held a number of senior leadership positions in the company’s Australian Automotive Components divisions including Regional President of the Powertrain Division from 2003 and Regional President of the Vehicle Safety Systems Division from 2008.

In 2011, Gavin was promoted to the positon of President and Chairman of the local subsidiary Robert Bosch Australia.

Gavin holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Otago in New Zealand, and an MBA from Monash University in Melbourne.

Gavin is the Chair of the Internet of Things Alliance Australia (IoTAA) and was recently appointed to the Prime Ministers Industry 4.0 task force, to chair the workgroup “Security of Networked Systems”.

In 2016, Bosch Australia launched the first locally developed highly automated driving (HAD) vehicle in partnership with the Victorian Government, Transport Accident Commission (TAC) and VicRoads.

Andrew has 15 years of private and public sector experience in transport and a Masters of Transport and Masters of Traffic from Monash University.


Neil Temperley

Neil led Data61’s Transport and Logistics Living Lab activity since its formation in early 2011 before joining Data61’s new product management team in 2016.  Neil has an interest in digital product platforms for future cities and transport & logistics.  Neil believes future user-focused vision should drive our choices of today and believes in the power of living lab collaboration to drive both effective innovation and industry cultural transformation.  Neil sits on the board of the Australian Living Lab Innovation Network and continues to play a mentoring role in Data61’s Living Lab.

The Transport and Logistics Living Lab — the first of its kind in Australia — was founded by Data61 (then NICTA), Fraunhofer and SAP Research as a demonstration space for innovative technologies, and as a community of industry, research and government organizations that works collaboratively to bring innovation into logistics.  This community has now grown to more than 50 participants.


Evan Walker
Director, Smart Innovation Centre
Transport for NSW

Evan Walker is the Director of the Smart Innovation Centre at Transport for NSW. His role is to work with industry and government agencies to identify and trial future transport technologies.

Before taking on this role, Evan worked as the Director of the Divisional Management Office for the Freight Strategy and Planning Division of TfNSW which provided him with a broad overview of Transport in NSW.

These roles follow-on from Evan’s 15 years’ experience working in road Safety, where he was the Director of Safer Systems at the NSW Centre for Road Safety for over four years. During his road safety career, Evan lead the development and implementation of new initiatives that contributed to significant improvements in road safety in NSW, including the NSW Speed Camera Strategy, the Plan B campaign and the establishment of the Community Road Safety Fund.

Heath is the Senior Marketing and Communications Manager for Tesla in Australia. With no paid advertising or sponsorships, Heath’s role concentrates on direct marketing, experiential marketing and media relations, whilst dealing with key business and government relationships to further advance the accelerated adoption of electric vehicles.

More recently, with the delivery of energy products into market, Heath’s role within media relations extended across the new Powerwall and Powerpack products.

Heath has a wealth of experience in experiential and digital marketing having led some key motor vehicle launches within Australia and having worked as head of brand on the 150th Melbourne Cup Carnival and head of events and broadcast for the Formula One Grand Prix and MotoGP in Australia.

Heath holds a Master of Business, as well as a Bachelor of Applied Science.


Cecilia Warren

Cecilia Warren leads IAG’s innovation thinking in mobility and future directions for motor insurance covering research, collaboration and partnerships.

With a passion for creativity, people and imagining the future, Cecilia’s experience canvasses over 15 years of policy, research, regulatory reform and innovation in government and private sectors.

Cecilia has a broad understanding of the socio-political context of connected and autonomous vehicles, including the challenge and complexity for regulation, insurance and liability.

Since joining Australia’s largest general insurer in 2009, Cecilia has served on a number of motor industry and road safety advisory boards and is a current steering committee member of the Australian Driverless Vehicle Initiative (ADVI).   Cecilia holds a Bachelor of Science and Arts from the University of Sydney, and has studied fine art at the New York Studio School.


Stephan Winter
Professor in Spatial Information Science, Department of Infrastructure Engineering
Melbourne University

Stephan Winter is Professor in Spatial Information Science at the Department of Infrastructure Engineering, The University of Melbourne. He holds a PhD (Dr.-Ing., 1997) from the University of Bonn, and a habilitation from the Technical University Vienna (2001). Within spatial information science Stephan Winter is specializing on human wayfinding and navigation, and future urban mobility.
